In addition to its incredible staging and cast, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is so important for its central message: stop waiting for permission to be you.
Following his dream, Jamie New (John McCrea) decides that he’s going to go to prom in drag. With the help of Hugo Battersby (Phil Nichol) and his supportive mother Margaret (Josie Walker), Jamie creates his drag persona Mimi Me.
McCrea is an absolute star in the titular role. He brings style and comedy but can also break your heart during Jamie’s vulnerable moments.
Featuring a fun, modern score, the show continually highlights the importance of acceptance regardless of sexual orientation, race and more. It’s a continually needed message that is so dear to the theater community and presented fabulously here.
Final say: There’s a new star shining so bright. ★★★★★
