Despite having powerhouses Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell as the leads, with the former two acting as executive producers, The Morning Show misses the mark that would make it an outstanding drama.

After 15 years as co-anchor, Mitch Kessler (Carell) is fired from The Morning Show due to sexual misconduct allegations. His on-screen partner Alexy Levy (Aniston) is left shocked and announces social media sensation Bradley Jackson (Witherspoon) as her new co-anchor. Bradley sticks to her guns as she investigates the workplace scandal.

The writing is shaky and often pits the women against each other – especially Aniston and Witherspoon, though they’re face-offs are legendary – despite being a show trying to empower women. The character development throughout is all over the place.

Final say: It’ll wake you up, but there are better ways to spend your day. ★★★☆☆
