Film: Over the Moon

Opened: October 23, 2020

Directed by: Glen Keane

Starring: Cathy Ang, Phillipa Soo, Robert G. Chiu, Ken Jeong, John Cho, Ruthie Ann Miles, Margaret Cho, Kimiko Glenn, Artt Butler, Irene Tsu, Clem Cheung, Conrad Ricamora & Sandra Oh

Though the storyline will feel familiar to a number of Disney/Pixar films – especially with director Glen Keane coming from Disney animation – the heart in Over the Moon will win over every viewer.

A few years after her mother (Ruthie Ann Miles) passes away, Fei Fei (Cathy Ang) is horrified to learn her father (John Cho) is getting married again to Mrs. Zhong (Sandra Oh). Wanting to prove the myth of Chang’e (Phillipa Soo) and her one true love, Fei Fei takes a trip to the moon.

The music in this film is incredibly written with Fei Fei’s “Rocket to the Moon” and Chang’e’s “Ultraluminary” being the big standouts. The casting was done well with having many theater veterans providing their strong vocals to these characters.

And, colorful animation will appeal to all audiences.

Final say: Shoot for the stars. ★★★★★
