In the sequel to the hit young adult Greek mythology novel, The Lightning Thief, Percy Jackson returns with new and familiar characters on another quest that will determine the fate of the world.
Percy starts having dreams about Grover, who is on his own quest to find his father Pan. When Percy returns to Camp Half-Blood and finds it in peril, he sets off with Annabeth and his new friend Tyson to save Grover and retrieve the Golden Fleece that’ll help save the camp.
While the story moves at a fast pace and we see more gods and monsters come along, the action in this book doesn’t compare to its predecessor. The stakes feel lower, leading to a lessened interest.
However, the twist ending is a good setup for the series’ third novel.
Final say: Not quite heroic. ★★★☆☆
