The seventh entry in The Conjuring franchise definitely improves upon the flaws of some of its predecessors and is enough to give you chills but isn’t a lasting horror film like the first entry.
Judy Warren (Mckenna Grace) is left with her babysitter Mary Ellen (Madison Iseman) overnight while her parents (Patrick Wilson & Vera Farmiga) go out of town. When Mary Ellen’s friend Daniela (Katie Sarife) enters the artifacts room, she unknowingly unleashes Annabelle and other malevolent spirits.
Though unfortunate for the previous Judy actress, Grace is a solid addition and completely believable. Throughout the majority of the film, the entire cast is strong and don’t play the fear more than necessary.
Unfortunately, the final act feels a bit rushed with several parts going unexplained and a happy ending coming too easily.
Final say: Home’s not a sweet home. ★★★☆☆
