Everyone feels grief in a different way, and The Invitation keeps you on edge as you watch the characters deal with their own grief from a past tragedy.
Will (Logan Marshall-Green) and his girlfriend Kira (Emayatzy Corinealdi) attend a dinner party hosted by Will’s ex-wife Eden (Tammy Blanchard) and her husband David (Michiel Huisman). After the death of Will & Eden’s son, they separated and it’s the first time their group of friends have all been together in two years.
From the beginning, there’s a sense of unease with everything from the lighting to the score to the questionable actions of the main characters. The anticipation of waiting for something to happen is worse than anything else.
You won’t know which characters to trust and the slow reveal is shocking if slightly predictable.
Final say: Remember to breathe. ★★★★☆
