With an almost exact replica of the Broadway production, the national tour production of Aladdin will continue to create new fans in the younger audience and remind the older audience of why they love this story.
When Princess Jasmine (Kaenaonālani Kekoa) escapes the palace in Agrabah, she runs into street thief Aladdin (Jonah Ho’okano). Their connection happens fast, but they’re quickly separated. Aladdin soon finds a lamp that produces a Genie (Korie Lee Blossey) that can help grant wishes to get back to Jasmine.
Both Kekoa and Ho’okano give great performances, but like the Broadway version – and the film to be honest – they’re overshadowed by the energy and pizzazz of Blossey’s Genie. He gives show-stopping performances in both acts that will bring the audience to a roaring applause.
Final say: A familiar world that you’ll want to revisit. ★★★★☆
