Critics lauded Valentine’s Day upon its release, but the Garry Marshall film isn’t looking to be a cinematic masterpiece.
On Valentine’s day, people throughout Los Angeles are connected through different relationships. Football player Sean Jackson (Eric Dane) makes a big announcement, Captain Katherine Hazeltine (Julia Roberts) is on her way home for a short leave and florist Reed Bennett (Ashton Kutcher) figures out how to express his own love.
Only a director like Marshall could get this number of famous names into one of his films.
Some of the storylines are thin – Kathy Bates is hardly present and after the start, no one seems to know what to do with Jessica Alba – but most of them pack a lot of heart, especially the older couple played by Shirley MacLaine and Héctor Elizondo.
Final say: Love is in the air. ★★★★☆
