With the Hollywood Bowl being a perfect venue for the minimalist set of A Chorus Line, the show succeeds in staging and some performances, but some moments fail to grasp attention.
Zach (Mario Lopez) auditions theater performances to make up the ensemble of an upcoming show. He asks them a series of questions that help reveal their inner selves.
Reprising his role from the 2006 Broadway revival, Jason Tam will bring you to tears with Paul’s monologue. The best vocals come from Mara Davi – also from the 2006 revival – who hits a beautiful high note in “At the Ballet” and Broadway veteran Krysta Rodriguez, who impresses on multiple songs. However, Sabrina Bryan gives it her all but is too cutesy when it comes to Val’s sexual side.
Final say: Dance – ten; Looks – seven. ★★★★☆
