Produced by Aaron Spelling – the man behind Beverly Hills, 90210 and Melrose PlaceSoapdish is a fun romp on soap operas and the wild personalities that make them.

The Sun Also Sets star Celeste Talbert’s (Sally Field) world is turned upside down when her former flame Jeffrey Anderson (Kevin Kline) is brought back to the show in a ratings move. At the same time, Celeste’s niece Lori (Elisabeth Shue) also joins the cast.

As one would expect in a film about a soap opera, everything is over the top. The story takes twists and turns – most of which you’ll see coming – and it all adds up to a jaw-dropping ending that’s slightly offensive to the LGBTQIA+ community.

Field is too much at times, while Whoopi Goldberg and Robert Downey Jr. are the standouts.

Final say: An uproarious comedy. ★★★☆☆
