A reimagining of the classic Disney animation, Cinderella is more magical now that it’s ever been before.
After Ella (Lily James) – later renamed Cinderella – loses both of her parents, she’s stuck living and serving her evil stepmother (Cate Blanchett) and stepsisters (Sophie McShera and Holliday Grainger). Not knowing he’s a prince, she falls for Kit (Richard Madden), who is eager to find her again.
While the film follows the same storyline that’s been passed down for centuries, it’s enhanced by some plot additions. Perhaps the most emotional is when the King (Derek Jacobi) and Kit have their final moments together.
James is the total embodiment of Cinderella. She’s charming and has a heart of gold. Madden has a dazzling smile and strength mixed with vulnerability that makes him a modern-day Prince Charming.
Final say: Easily the best Disney live-action remake. ★★★★★
