Film: The Princess Bride

Opened: September 25, 1987

Directed by: Rob Reiner

Starring: Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon, Christopher Guest, Wallace Shawn, André the Giant, Billy Crystal, Carol Kane, Peter Falk, Betsy Brantley & Fred Savage

With a bit of zany humor, The Princess Bride tells a daring story of good and evil full of monsters, royalty and love.

While his grandson (Fred Savage) is sick, a grandfather (Peter Falk) reads him the story “The Princess Bride.” It tells the tale of Buttercup (Robin Wright) who is devastated after her love Westley (Cary Elwes) is murdered and she is forced into marrying Prince Humperdink (Chris Sarandon).

The film creates many memorable characters – many whom are not leads. Mandy Patinkin steals the show as Inigo Montoya. His delivery of Montoya’s signature line is perfect every time and he’ll continually have you laughing.

At the same time, the action is incredible. Like Savage’s character, you might be going into this thinking it’s just a love story, but there’s so much more to it.

Final say: A hilarious fantasy. ★★★★★
