For one night only, Jimmy Kimmel and Norman Lear brought two of Lear’s classic shows – All in the Family and The Jeffersons – back to life with an all-star cast.
All in the Family recreated the episode “Henry’s Farewell,” where Archie Bunker (Woody Harrelson) objects to Henry Jefferson’s (Anthony Anderson) farewell party happen in his house. The Jeffersons recreated their first episode where George Jefferson (Jamie Foxx) demands his wife Louise (Wanda Sykes) hire help.
The themes in the two episodes are still highly relevant, especially with its commentary on class and racism. It’s amazing that a show over 40 years old could still be that impactful.
Many of the actors are great at recreating the characters, but few stand out like Tomei – who’s so sweet she’ll melt your heart – and Foxx’s spot-on impression.
Final say: Leaves you wanting more. ★★★★☆
