The beloved Andrew Lloyd Webber musical got an update and changed its staging, but it wasn’t necessary and the changes dampen the experience of the show.

Christine Daaé (Eva Tavares) has been studying under a mysterious music teacher – the Phantom of the Opera (Quentin Oliver Lee). When she steps in for star Carlotta (Trista Moldovan), the Phantom and Raoul (Jordan Craig) begin sparring for her affections.

Phantom is one of the most-well known shows in the world and has been entertaining audiences for 30+ years. This national tour changed set pieces, which doesn’t let some parts of the show shine. The biggest offender is the omitting of the grand staircase during “Masquerade.”

Lee is an unfit Phantom, often struggling with the high notes and not acting or reacting to his fellow actors.

Final say: Don’t mess with a good thing. ★★☆☆☆
