In the second novel of Veronica Roth’s popular young adult series, Tris and her friends are pushed to their limits as tensions rise in post-apocalyptic Chicago.
At the end of Divergent, a war amongst the factions was beginning to stir as one faction, the Erudite – intelligent – decide to take out the divergent people who threaten their way of life. In this novel, Tris and Four – whom are both divergents – team up with Four’s mother in the factionless tribe to take down the higher ups.
Roth writes Tris with a fiery passion. As the novel is told through her point of view, readers get to dive into her drive to fight, but also the struggle she has coping with the loss of her mother and killing of her friend.
Final say: A thrilling middle novel, which isn’t easy. ★★★★☆
