They say you shouldn’t mess with a good thing, and that should have applied for The Rocky Horror Picture Show. A film that iconic didn’t need to be remade for television.
After getting engaged, Brad (Ryan McCartan) and Janet (Victoria Justice) go to visit their old professor Dr. Scott (Ben Vereen), but their car breaks down along the way. They find themselves in a castle where transsexual Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Laverne Cox) is creating life.
Fortunately, this show wasn’t as big of a disaster as it could’ve been. Some of the performances – including McCartan and Cox, who breaks barriers as a transgender woman playing the lead – were quite enjoyable. However, it’s the format that ruined the show. The oddities that make sense in the film are overplayed here and feel unreal.
Final say: Let’s do the original time warp again. ★★☆☆☆
