This revival of Pippin took a beloved Broadway show and ignited it with new spirit.
As told by the Leading Player (Patina Miller), young Prince Pippin (Matthew James Thomas) sets out to find his life’s desires and passions. Pippin gets lead astray by the Leading Player and must figure out how to make up for his errors.
Between Scott Pask’s Tony-nominated scenic design and Diane Paulus’ Tony-winning direction, this version of Pippin is even better than the original. The two have made the show into a literal circus that will dazzle audiences. Pippin’s staging is at its best during the emotional climax.
Miller steals the show as the Leading Player. Her vocals draw you in right from the start, and her dancing and manipulation of Pippin will intrigue throughout.
Final say: Magic is just what this show does. ★★★★★
