Based on the 1988 Roald Dahl novel, Matilda the Musical is here to charm new generations of audiences with a retelling of the beloved story.
Matilda Wormwood (Sophia Gennusa, Oona Laurence, Bailey Ryon & Milly Shapiro on alternating schedules) is five-year-old wise beyond her years. When she realizes that she needs to change the way people act around her, she finds she has special powers of her own.
The musical takes everything you love about the novel and the 1996 film and adds to it. Tim Minchin’s music and lyrics are addictive to listen to – just try not to jump along to “Revolting Children.”
Bertie Carvel, Gabriel Ebert and Lesli Margherita all give stellar performances as Miss Trunchbull, Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood, respectively. But, it’s the ensemble cast as children that steal the show.
Final say: Magical for the family. ★★★★☆
