You’ve probably heard about this film from the awards buzz it’s getting, and boy, dies it deserve it.
Almost a year after her daughter’s (Kathryn Newton) murder, Mildred (Frances McDormand) puts the spotlight on the police department and their chief (Woody Harrelson), whom she feels are not doing enough to find the killer. She rents three billboards to call them out and becomes a source of contention in town.
McDormand, Harrelson and Sam Rockwell put on a master class of acting in this film. Through their characters, they show humanity, pain and anger, but also prove that people can overcome hatred in times of need.
Writer and director Martin McDonagh mixes the intense drama with some lighter parts, which makes the film more enjoyable to watch than other Oscar-bait dramas.
Final say: The one that’ll win all the awards. ★★★★★
