Film: The Holiday

Opened: December 8, 2006

Directed by: Nancy Meyers

Starring: Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Jack Black, Eli Wallach, Edward Burns, Rufus Sewell, Kathryn Hahn & John Krasinski

Nancy Meyers is the queen of the romantic comedy and she doesn’t disappoint in this Christmas-themed film.

Fed up with their love lives, Amanda (Cameron Diaz) and Iris (Kate Winslet) decide they need to get away from it all. They meet online through a home exchange website and soon Amanda is off to London and Iris is off to LA. They both find romance abroad – Amanda falls for Iris’ brother, Graham (Jude Law), and Iris falls for Amanda’s friend Miles (Jack Black).

The comedy in the film is perfect. Parts will make you crack up, but nothing seems over the top. There is a lot of sentiment in this film that will bring tears as well. And while you’ll question how realistic some of the plot points are, you’ll enjoy it nonetheless.

Final say: A holiday everyone deserves. ★★★★★
