Starring: Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Forest Whitaker & Michael Stuhlbarg

Talk about a movie that really makes you think. When I left the theater after seeing this, I had to Google the ending to make sense of it. But once I understood it, my mind was blown.

Linguistics professor Louise Banks (Amy Adams) is called in by the US Government to help make contact with one of the twelve space pods that have made landing around the world.

The film hits some strong notes about how nations communicate with each other in terms of crisis and how we, as the human race, react to things that we don’t understand.

Adams is the heart and soul of this film. When people were appalled by her lack of an Oscar nomination, they were right. She brings strength and wonder to such a difficult role.

Final say: Watch it twice to understand. ★★★★☆
