This film is not for the faint of heart. Actually, this film probably isn’t for most people.
A woman (Jennifer Lawrence) lives a quiet life in a secluded part of the woods with her author husband (Javier Bardem). Their peace gets disrupted when two strangers (Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer) enter their lives.
Though unclear at first, and quite possibly unclear at the end, this whole film is an allegory of God, Mother Earth and mankind. And the way that Aronofsky does it is really quite interesting from a cinematic and storytelling viewpoint.
However, as a viewer, Mother! was so difficult to follow. Even when I did start to understand what was happening, I kept questioning why I was watching and was disgusted by the imagery.
Final say: Don’t watch if you’re solely looking for entertainment. ★★☆☆☆
