This is a case where I judged a book by its cover. I saw the haunting cover on a shelf at Barnes & Noble and knew that I had to read it.

10-year-old Jack Peter Keenan nearly drowns in the ocean near his home in Maine. Three years later, he refuses to leave the safety of his house. He starts to draw monsters, but soon those monsters come to life and haunt Jack Peter and everyone around him.

Author Keith Donohue writes a terrifying tale that lets your mind go wild. You won’t be able to sleep.

What’s great is that the novel will scare you through the very last sentence. The twist at the end is so crazy that over a year later, I’m still boggled by it.

Final say: Not the best bedtime story, but a great read. ★★★★☆
