Despite being known for its Twilight Zone opening, Disney’s Hollywood Studios attraction “Tower of Terror” was never an episode. This film is the first to bring the pre-ride story to life.

On Halloween of 1939, five people were headed to a party on the 12th floor of the Hollywood Tower Hotel, when the building was struck by lightning and they all disappeared. Many years later, a journalist (Steve Guttenberg) sets out to learn the story of what really happened.

Guttenberg, along with the majority of the cast, overact everything making it corny. The camera being constantly tilted to let you know that something spooky is happening is a cheap effect, as are many of the other effects.

The one really bright spot is Melora Hardin’s acting, which is sweet and entertaining.

Final say: The ride is more fun and scarier. ★★☆☆☆
