Based on the hit novel by Jenny Han, The Summer I Turned Pretty is a smooth watch with some strong emotional moments.

Belly (Lola Tung) is back at Cousins Beach for the summer where her family reunites with the Fishers as they do every year. Belly’s had a crush on Conrad (Christopher Briney) since she was ten, but now Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) is showing interest in her.

As the series creator, Han does well in expanding the novel by fixing some wrongs in her writing and developing a stronger plot. However, the story unravels at the end with the love triangle storyline taking a hard dip, which feels nonsensical in the way the characters are portrayed here.

However, Tung is fantastic in the lead role. Even if you don’t understand her emotions, you feel them.

Final say: Pretty good. ★★★★☆
