A film filled with strong female characters both good and bad, Polite Society is a fantastic action film that combines Bollywood with British humor.
Ria Khan (Priya Kansara) is an aspiring stuntwoman and has her older sister Lena (Ritu Arya), who dropped out of art school, film her. When Lena enters a whirlwind romance with Salim (Akshay Khanna), Ria becomes suspicious of Salim and his mother Raheela’s (Nimra Bucha) intentions.
Though they spend a good part of the film arguing with each other, Kansara and Arya are a dynamic pairing that easily demonstrates the complexity of sibling relationships. Both display martial arts fantastically, while Bucha is the perfect villain.
There are some elements that feel a bit exaggerated, but you’ll be so enthralled by the comedy and fight scenes that you won’t mind.
Final say: No need to be polite. ★★★★☆
