As Belly’s story and struggle between her feelings for brothers Conrad and Jeremiah continue, you’ll quickly realize that Belly is actually the villain in her own story.
Happening a year after the events of The Summer I Turned Pretty, Susannah has died, and Conrad and Belly have broken up. Jeremiah reaches out to Belly for her help when Conrad goes missing, and the three reunite at their summer house at Cousins Beach to find out the boys’ father has put it up for sale.
Belly isn’t an enjoyable character to read. She’s mean and highly insecure to the point where the plot is completely overshadowed by Belly demeaning herself or taking down others. The story surrounding the potential loss of the house should be greater but ends up only covering a handful of chapters.
Final say: Belly ruins her story. ★★☆☆☆
