A forgotten gem in the Disney animation canon, The Rescuers is darker than their typical films with child endangerment at the forefront but remains an exciting classic.
Mice Bernard (Bob Newhart) and Miss Bianca (Eva Gabor) of the Rescue Aid Society are sent on a mission to help young orphan Penny (Michelle Stacy), who has been kidnapped by Madame Medusa (Geraldine Page) and Mr. Snoops (Joe Flynn) to obtain a diamond called the Devil’s Eye.
Penny’s storyline is nerve-wracking as she is often put in dangerous situations in a small cave or alongside alligators. The mice level each other out well with Bernard’s nervousness and Miss Bianca’s sense of adventure. Both help each other immensely.
Gabor’s vocal talents as Miss Bianca are memorable with a sweetness that matches her character design well.
Final say: A masterpiece you might not remember. ★★★★★
