Though it was a fun successor to other Disney Channel Original Movie musicals, the weak script and acting of Camp Rock make it harder to revisit.

Aspiring singer Mitchie Torres (Demi Lovato) gets to attend her dream summer camp, Camp Rock, when her mom Connie (Maria Canals-Barrera) becomes the camp’s head chef. Shane Gray (Joe Jonas) is a pop star trying to fix his image by returning to the camp as an instructor.

Mitchie is a hard character to root for. She has genuine moments but spends most of the summer lying about how her identity to people who don’t deserve her.

However, the music in this film can’t be denied. The Jonas Brothers-led “Play My Music” is top notch pop, and the Joe Jonas and Lovato-led “This is Me” is a lasting anthem.

Final say: It rocks – at times. ★★★☆☆
