Based on the famous outlaw that stole from the rich and gave to the poor, Robin Hood takes the classic story and infuses it with the Disney charm to become a wonderfully fun animated adventure.
After Prince John (Peter Ustinov) raises taxes, the citizens of Nottingham are left destitute. Robin Hood (Brian Bedford) and his partner Little John (Phil Harris) are committed to stealing back the money to benefit the people.
Prince John – an adolescent lion – is a comical villain who tries to show strength but easily crumbles under pressure. Paired alongside crafty Robin Hood – a fox – there’s great sparring between them.
Though a lot of the animation is reused from former Disney films, it breathes new life. With some of the most entertaining characters and a great voice cast, this is an underrated gem.
Final say: Nothing poor here. ★★★★★
