Dollface is a comedic show that strives for feminism and the importance of female relationships, but its uneven storytelling keeps it from being as great as it could be.

Jules’ (Kat Dennings) boyfriend Jeremy (Connor Hines) breaks up with her after five years of dating. Having lost friendships, Jules works to reconnect with former best friends Madison (Brenda Song) and Stella (Shay Mitchell) while also creating a bond with colleague Izzy (Esther Povitsky).

The show leans a bit too much into stereotypes and never digs beneath the surface of feminist culture. Jules’ many imaginative adventures back into the world of women often distracts from facing the problem in a realistic way.

Dennings is charming as Jules, but it’s her costars Song, Mitchell and Povitsky who steal the show with their more developed characters.

Final say: Promising but needs work. ★★★☆☆
