Embracing her adult fanbase (especially the gay men), Idina Menzel comes into her own on the dance-heavy, disco-inspired Drama Queen.

The album embraces the power of accepting and loving who you are. In her lead single and opening track, “Move,” Menzel steps out of the shadows and steals the spotlight. Another standout is “Make Me Hate Me,” where she acknowledges that people can throw whatever they want at her and even if it tears her down a bit, she will still love herself.

The sound is different from Menzel’s previous albums and Disney/Broadway-style anthems, but you can feel the happiness and power in each song. You’ll want to get up and have a dance party (even if it’s on your own).

Final say: We’ve known Menzel is a queen, but it’s great hearing she knows it too. ★★★★☆
