Following the harrowing journey of its lead character, Io Capitano is inspiring but ends right when you want to know what happens next.

Cousins Seydou (Seydou Sarr) and Moussa (Moustapha Fall) wish to leave Senegal and travel to Europe to make money to send home. They leave without telling their families and trek across the desert facing many complications that deter their journey.

Sarr leads the film with inspiring grace. As a viewer, you’ll question how this 16-year-old faces and overcomes intense obstacles because you could never do it yourself. But Seydou’s storyline ends with many questions left about his continuing journey.

The cinematography brings rich colors to the screen making the horrendous desert look beautiful. Moments of reprieve from the harsh reality come in fantastical images and help alleviate the drama.

Final say: Just needed a little bit more. ★★★★☆
