Though it isn’t great cinema by any means, College Road Trip is a fun time with a good amount of heart underneath the zaniness of the story.

Police Chief James Porter (Martin Lawrence) has always dreamed his daughter Melanie (Raven-Symoné) would go to Northwestern University, which they live less than a half hour from. Melanie gets excited when she’s accepted into Georgetown but is annoyed when her dad derails her college road trip with her best friends.

Lawrence and Symoné have fantastic chemistry and bring laughter even though their acting is almost always over the top. However, you can see the love between their characters and the actual fears of separating for the first time.

The side plots are wild with a pet pig getting a ton of unnecessary screentime.

Final say: I wanna ride on this Double Dutch bus. ★★★☆☆
