In between the first two films in The Dark Knight trilogy, Christopher Nolan released The Prestige. And while it may not be remembered as well as some of his other films, it contains one of the best stories.
Magicians Robert Angier (Hugh Jackman) and Alfred Borden (Christian Bale) work alongside each other until Alfred’s involvement in a trick kills Robert’s wife (Piper Perabo). As they continue in their careers, both try to outmatch each other.
While there are many time jumps, this is one of the easiest of Nolan’s films to follow. You’re constantly kept on an intense ride that’ll have you guessing what’s next, which leads to a mind-blowing conclusion with questions remaining.
Jackman and Bale create a formidable rivalry that makes you cheer for and against both of their characters.
Final say: Worth a second watch. ★★★★★
