While The Miracle Club is a slow drama that’s not overly memorable, it benefits from dream trio of film legends Laura Linney, Kathy Bates and Maggie Smith.

After the death of her mother, Chrissie (Linney) returns to Dublin for the funeral right before a church trip to Lourdes, France, where miracles are supposed to occur. Eileen (Bates) and Lily (Smith) are unhappily shocked at her return and joining them on the trip.

The story of the ladies’ estrangement is slowly unfurled, but the actresses take proper care of making sure it’s told respectfully. Smith employs her usual wit, which allows her to have sharp responses while also being deeply caring.

In the end, the miracles given are not what the women set out for but what they needed, which is much more satisfying.

Final say: This cast is a miracle. ★★★☆☆
