Drifting away from the plot of the book at points, The Woman in the Window has an identity issue but benefits from a strong cast.

Agoraphobic Dr. Anna Fox (Amy Adams) sees Jane Russell (Julianne Moore) murdered across the street and calls the police but is surprised when Alistair Russell (Gary Oldman) introduces her to Jane Russell (Jennifer Jason Leigh).

Adams is fantastic at making Anna the unreliable protagonist of this story – leading you to question her claims. When Adams and Moore are together, they have lighthearted chemistry that stands out in the eerie atmosphere.

As the story progresses, it becomes more frantic, which works in a sense but can feel jarring at points, especially for those who read the book. You won’t know if you’re watching a thriller or a slasher.

Final say: Rear Window still does it better. ★★☆☆☆
