Though it falls into standard rom-com tropes, Set It Up acknowledges them and breaks free into new territory.

Harper (Zoey Deutch) and Charlie (Glen Powell) are the overworked and mistreated assistants of Kirsten (Lucy Liu) and Rick (Taye Diggs), respectively. Harper and Charlie plan for Kirsten and Rick to fall in love so they can get some well-deserved time off.

Deutch and Powell are a dynamic pair. Both evolve their roles into multi-faceted characters that will make you laugh as often as you feel bad for them. Throughout the course of the film, you see Liu make Kirsten more than a bitchy boss but someone with an admirable heart underneath.

The love stories in this are rewarding with a smart script that will keep you gushing all the way through.

Final say: Don’t reinvent the wheel, just make some tweaks. ★★★★★
