It may teeter on the edge of melodramatic at times, but Love Field is ultimately a beautifully made film about race relations in the 1960s.

Lurene (Michelle Pfeiffer) goes to see Jackie Kennedy (Rhoda Griffis) in Dallas and on her way home learns that President Kennedy was assassinated. Lurene decides to go to the funeral and meets Paul (Dennis Haysbert) and his daughter Jonell (Stephanie McFadden) on her bus.

With the exuberance of Lurene’s personality, the character could have easily isolated audiences, but Pfeiffer provides depth and levels. It’s another fantastic performance that proves her versatility.

Though there could have been more added to the black perspective on racism at that time, the effects of racism are well handled showing how white and black people are both handling the death of the president.

Final say: Pfeiffer at her best. ★★★☆☆
