With stellar performances and the ability to perfectly combine comedy and crime, Married to the Mob remains a strong film that can be enjoyed by anyone.
Frank de Marco (Alec Baldwin) is killed by mob boss Tony Russo (Dean Stockwell) after he catches Frank with his mistress Karen (Nancy Travis). Now widowed, Angela (Michelle Pfeiffer) tries to object advances from Tony while she’s also being tailed by FBI Agent Mike Downey (Matthew Modine), who’s investigating Frank’s murder.
Pfeiffer is irresistible. She has an edge to her, but mostly embodies an innocent woman who’s found herself in a bad situation. She and Modine have great chemistry that draws you just as much into their romance as you’re entertained by the crimes at hand. Mercedes Ruehl also has a fantastic arc as Tony’s suspicious wife Connie.
Final say: You’ll say, “I do.” ★★★★★
