Brilliantly mixing crime and comedy, Perrier’s Bounty lets its characters have fun while also providing an anxiety-inducing plot.
Michael McCrea (Cillian Murphy) owes a debt to crime boss Darren Perrier (Brendan Gleeson). After being visited by his estranged father (Jim Broadbent), Darren is attacked and his neighbor Brenda (Jodie Whittaker) kills one of the thugs (Don Wycherley), which leads the three of them on the run.
Murphy and Broadbent are excellent together as their characters hash out some problems and reconnect. Gleeson is brilliant when it turns out his two thugs are gay lovers and his character has zero objections to it. For its time, this was a very progressive move.
The film has some great twists and will keep you on the edge of your seat, so buckle up for an entertaining ride.
Final say: Bounty pays off. ★★★★☆
