While you’d think there could be one character you’d root for leading up to this wedding, all of them ae too unlikable to warrant feelings of hope.
Margot (Nicole Kidman) and her son Claude (Zane Pais) go to Long Island on to spend time with her sister Pauline (Jennifer Jason Leigh), who is about to get married to Malcolm (Jack Black). Margot and Pauline have an intense relationship that implodes as they spend time together.
Every character has a lot of red flags and the one that you think you could bet on – Black’s Malcolm – turns out to have the slimiest trait by the end. And it’s not riveting drama that you can sink your teeth into, it’s watching a bunch of unlikable characters be boring.
Worst of all, the ending comes abruptly but unsurprisingly.
Final say: I object. ★☆☆☆☆
