A wild ride that will have you feeling highly uncomfortable, The Killing of a Sacred Deer is a masterpiece, but you’ll only want to watch it once.
Steven (Colin Farrell) keeps a relationship with Martin (Barry Keoghan), whose father died on Steven’s operating table. One day Steven’s son Bob (Sunny Suljic) loses the feelings in his legs, and Martin tells Steven he must kill one of his three family members, or they’ll all suffer the same paralysis and die.
Between the camera work helmed by Thimios Bakatakis, the discomforting score and the fantastic yet monotone performances from the cast, director Yorgos Lanthimos creates an eerie film from its beginning moments that doesn’t let up until the credits roll. Even though you know it won’t, you’ll be waiting for something positive to happen.
Final say: A killing you won’t forget. ★★★★★
