Based on the best-selling self-exploration memoir, Eat Pray Love suffers from a lengthy runtime that allows us to see the transformation, but not truly feel it.

Unhappy with her stagnant life, Liz Gilbert (Julia Roberts) decides to end her marriage to Steven (Billy Crudup) and take a year-long journey discovering herself. She first eats in Italy, then discovers spirituality in India before going to Bali where she meets Felipe (Javier Bardem).

Roberts is fantastic, and if there’s one actress you’d be willing to follow on this journey, it’s her. She brings deep emotions that help convey Liz’s inner thoughts.

However, we can only go so deep into Liz. At some point, you’ll stop watching for the plot and will just enjoy the cinematography. The landscapes are beautiful, and the Italian food is to die for.

Final say: Not quite love. ★★★☆☆
