Due to overdone clichés and corny dialogue, the important story of the often-overlooked Tuskegee Airmen doesn’t get the right treatment in Red Tails.

Col. A.J. Bullard (Terrence Howard) fights against the racism facing the Tuskegee Airmen, which won’t allow them to fight properly in WWII. Captain Martin “Easy” Julian (Nate Parker) leads his squadron but has difficulty handling his best friend 1st Lieutenant Joe “Lightning” Little (David Oyelowo).

It feels like each character has a personality trait placed upon them but once they were decided, the writers didn’t think they needed to do any more development. Because of this, you’ve seen these characters before and know how their story will play out.

Some flat performances – namely Parker and Howard – bring down the film that already has issues from wavering achievements in CGI.

Final say: The story is worth more. ★★★☆☆
