Though it feels more like a family comedy than its intense swashbuckling predecessor, The Legend of Zorro still manages to be entertaining with great action sequences.

A decade into their marriage, Eléna (Catherine Zeta-Jones) resents Alejandro (Antonio Banderas) for focusing more on his Zorro adventures than being a father to Joaquin (Adrián Alonso). When a threat to California’s joining the Union occurs, Zorro must don his mask again.

Banderas and Zeta-Jones retain their steamy chemistry but starting the film with their divorce and the constant bickering that follows makes their characters tired. However, their son is a surprisingly welcome addition.

While the climactic battle is exciting, the CGI screens stand out too much in the shots and take you out of the realism that the practical scenes carry out incredibly.

Final say: Marriage may be the death of this franchise. ★★★☆☆
