Disturbing at times but always intriguing, Eyes Wide Shut is the perfect final shock from famed director Stanley Kubrick featuring then-married Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.

One night during a fight, Alice (Kidman) tells her husband Bill (Cruise) about a fantasy she had on a vacation of leaving her family and running off with a Naval officer. Bill leaves on a work call and has a mysterious night of his own, which finds him in the middle of a sex cult.

The first shot of the film has Kidman fully undressing and it easily sets the erotic tone of the film. There’s an uneasiness throughout that’s heightened by Jocelyn Pook’s music. With Bill being the one followed throughout, Cruise lets you enter his uneasy world as his illusion of marriage shatters.

Final say: A thrilling, sex-filled drama. ★★★★☆
