With the weight of the film falling on its leading lady, Gloria Bell continues to prove that Julianne Moore is one of the most captivating actresses of our generation.
Divorcée Gloria (Moore) meets recently divorced Arnold (John Turturro) and begins a romance with him, but he’s often focused on his needy family. Gloria helps her son Peter (Michael Cera) with his newborn child and supports her daughter Anne (Caren Pistorius) during a big life change.
There are so many intricacies to Gloria, and you see Moore easily let go of her ambitions and become this free character. When Moore dances to Laura Branigan’s “Gloria” in the final scene, you can’t help but cheer her on.
The film is an interesting look at a woman finding love later in life and making decisions for herself.
Final say: Everybody wants Gloria. ★★★★☆
