While Gunpowder Milkshake is a fantastic action film, its story is sidelined for the fight scenes and the entrancingly neon sets.

Sam (Karen Gillan) is sent on a mission to retrieve money that was stolen from The Firm. Encountering a young girl (Chloe Coleman), Sam must team up with her estranged mother (Lena Headey) and former colleagues (Angela Bassett, Carla Gugino & Michelle Yeoh) when The Firm turns against her.

Watching this team of powerhouse women in action is everything. Gillan, Headey, Bassett, Gugino and Yeoh are all able to show off their fight skills as they dominate the men trying to attack them. It’s incredible fun to watch.

However, we don’t learn enough about any character, and the tone is never set with a noir start but a modern end.

Final say: Watch for the cast and action. ★★★☆☆
