Trying to take itself more seriously while also remaining lighthearted, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania never quite finds its groove despite a larger, dynamic performance from Michelle Pfeiffer and a thrilling new villain.

Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton) creates a device that can send signals to the Quantum Realm. When a nervous Janet van Dyne (Pfeiffer) tries to shut it down, her family gets sucked in and find themselves stranded. To return home, Scott (Paul Rudd) and Hope (Evangeline Lilly) must face off against Janet’s nemesis Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors).

Despite appearing in the title, Ant-Man and the Wasp both feel like afterthoughts in this crazy, Star Wars-like story. All the action is fueled by Cassie and Janet’s characters through Kang. It’s not bad, but it doesn’t feel like an Ant-Man film.

Final say: You might feel lost. ★★★☆☆
